Our Story
Gravely Brewing Co. was founded in 2017 by Nathaniel Gravely - a Kentucky native with a vision for something Louisville hadn't seen before. A brewery where fresh beer, live music, and community weren't three separate things. They were the same thing.
We set up shop at 514 Baxter Avenue in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood - and we didn't choose that address by accident. The site sits on the hallowed ground of Phoenix Brewing Co., a German-founded brewery that was once the largest in Kentucky. Philip Zang and his successors brewed lager on this land from 1884 until Prohibition shut the doors in 1916. Two of the original underground lagering caverns - where beer fermented before refrigeration existed - are still on our property today. We brew in their shadow every batch - with sweeping views of the Louisville skyline as the backdrop.
Eight years later, Gravely is Kentucky's most award-winning brewery. Great American Beer Festival. World Beer Cup. North American Brewers Association. US Beer Open. And more. We're proud of every medal - and we're not done.
In 2025 we opened our Main Street taproom at 905 E Main St, evolving from a microbrewery into a full brewpub - fresh food, full bar, live music, and one unforgettable room. The Baxter Avenue brewery remains our production home, and the original Gravely patio will be back soon.
Family owned. Kentucky made.
